The new media does not feed us fully formed chunks, but broken chips and blips of imagery. We are required to piece an identity together to create a configurative or modular personality. This explains why so many millions are desperately searching for an identity.

The Golden Land struck by consecutive earthquakes

Modern changes and globalised cultural blending have yet to shudder the Myanmar people yet two strong earthquakes struck Yangon less than minute apart - not huge enough to generate a tsunami though. In the Shan state, the 7.0 magnitude quake was just 10 kilometres deep and followed by another of the same strength but far deeper: 230 kilometres as released by the US Geological Survey. The Myanmar, Thailand and Laos borders were besieged by quakes about 110 kilometres from the northern Thai city of Chiang Rai. Buildings rippled in Bangkok south of the epicentre and a 55 year old woman, who was sleeping at her home died when a wall collapsed.
